General Tips for Camping with Family Outdoors

Winter is finally over. The weather is getting nice and it is time for all of us to have some outdoor activities, such as a family camping. Of course, there are a multitude of tips and tricks to follow for a safe camping. Also, these tips allow your time spent camping to be more relaxing and enjoyable.

Family Camping Tents

The camping tent is the focal point of most camping trips. If you’re a beginning camper, there are a couple of different tent tips to remember. First and foremost, practice pitching your camping tent before you head to the campsite. Being able to do it quickly and effectively is extremely valuable. When looking for a place to set up, always look for a “natural bed” of soft, flat soil – but avoid the bottom of hills or valleys. Finally, always set up a tarp below your tent to avoid potential damage or water-logging.

Three Basic Camping Tips

Campers can also benefit from a few non-specific outdoor principles. Rule number one, no matter the time of year, is to dress in (or at least carry) layers. It’s the easiest and most effective way to control your body temperature. Secondly, learn how to use a GPS or map and compass. No matter how familiar you are with a certain wooded area, getting lost among acres of similar-looking trees is very easy. Finally, practice basic outdoor skills such using and sharpening a utility knife, tying various knots, and building a fire. It’s this knowledge that separates the amateurs from the seasoned campers.

What should we do when camping encountering unexpected rainstorm?

Imagine that, in a warm summer afternoon, you are enjoying your picnic, and you and your family are very happy to have a taste of the delicacy. All of a sudden, the rain drops “dripping, dripping” in the arm. Before you know it, it begins to rain cats and dogs. At this time, there came a great crash and bang in the distance. What should you do?

If fortunate enough as you that your camping tent is nearby, getting into the camping tent can take shelter from the rain with the precondition that you own a waterproof camping tent. You have to make it clear that a bad camping tent which is equal to a slack one can directly ruin your wonderful camping. When confronting summer’s thunderstorm, first of all, you’ve got to observe the location of your encampment. If it turns out to be the following three places, you’d better give up your dear camping tent and run away as fast as possible no matter how terrible you feel about the raindrop:

  • Places near the mountain. In a day with intense fall, there could be potential danger of falling rock, flood and even debris flow.
  • Where closes to a river or a stream. The rising tide may rush away your tent and you without mercy!
  • Under a tree. Considering from common sense, encamping in a tree stands a good chance to be struck by lighting.

In outdoor, inevitably, we will encounter various natural calamities and man-made misfortune. When it terribly happens, even our trusted large family camping tent is not strong and safe enough any more as it ever was comparing the hazard disaster, and the most important thing then we need to do is to be calm and save ourselves. Once getting stuck in the mountains because of torrential flood, it is necessary to choose a high ground or a cave where is far away from mountain torrents and wait for rescue; if we have no communication tools, find some branches and other combustible, ignite them and put some wet twigs or grass beside the fire, making the fire rise a lot of dense smoke, in order to attract the attention of the search and rescue.

Begin a Hammock Camping

Have you go for a camping with a hammock not a tent? Ever, I read an article that explains a point that a ligthweight camping hammock is better than a camping tent. Really? Can lightweight camping hammocks a good option when camping instead of using a tent?

Beautiful Color Stripes Fabric HammockHere are some reasons of choosing a hammock during your camping?

A quality lightweight camping hammock weighs a lot less than a small tent and if your hiking around from one campsite to another anything that takes a bit of weight off your back can only be a good thing.

No more trying to find level ground to make it easy to pitch a tent on.

Chief among them is mobility. you can pitch camp just about anywhere below treeline. Able to sleep on rocky ground and don’t have to spend time clearing away plant life to make a space for the tent. Just attaching the ends of the hammock to trees is a lot quicker than setting up a tent. It has very low impact when you pick a stealth camping site, since you won’t compress the forest duff in the same way that pitching a tent or tarp will.

If you have to move very quickly during the night just zip up the hammock with all you possessions inside, untie from the trees and sling over your shoulder as you walk away.

Sleeping in a hammock has some real advantages over sleeping in a tent once you get used to it. If you get a hammock, it should only take one or two nights for you to get comfortable to sleeping in it. That first night however can be a little disconcerting and you might want to take a Benedryl to help you get drowsy and settle down. However, with a little practice and experience, you will learn how to orient your hammock to take advantage of cooling breezes and avoid being hot at night.

Sleeping in a hammock can also be much more comfortable than sleeping on a sleeping pad. It can also be far more scenic since you can pitch it between two trees on steep slopes overlooking a fabulous sunset or beside a remote mountain lake in the Adirondacks (see above).

For the categories, there’re many various kinds of hammock for camping. There’s wooden hammock, canvas hammock, rope hammock, fabric hammock, and string mesh-webbing hammock.

How to Pack for a Summer Camping Trip?

Family Summer Camping Trip

Family Summer Camping Trip

It gets hotter and hotter, it is a piece of good news, at least, for campers don’t like winter camping trip. So it is the best time to have a summer camping trip now. You can spend long and sunny days on the lake or just taking a nap in your portable hammock, or spying on the boys or girls, etc, there are too many things you can do. But what you should take with you and how to make your camping interesting and fabulous, I think both of the questions trouble most of new campers, we will offer some instructions and tips about it in this post.

  1. Call the camp ahead of time and ask a list of recommended clothing and apparel, because the camp staff knows more about the terrain and weather patterns and they will give you professional suggestions. Of course, you also can search related information on some professional camping forum or ask some campers with much experience give some advice.
  2. You can begin to pack several weeks in advance, this can avoid forgetting some important things, you have enough time to think what you should take or what you should take but forget. Ask your kids to help you pack so that he/she will know what they want to bring and if they had packed.
  3. Purchase a large duffel bag or trunk on wheels, absolutely, you needn’t to purchase anymore if you already have one. Don’t forget to prepare a small bag for your kids, they can carry some light things belong to them, this can cultivate children’s independence.

  4. Take the camping food into consideration. Generally speaking, there are two solutions to camping food, one is take ready-to eat foods, the another one is take some food and cook by yourself. If you plan to cook by yourself, you’d better bring along of food which is light to carry and expands when cooked, such as, rice, beans, oat and other grains, because they can be easily place in your bag and can last for days. In fact, have a BBQ also is a wonderful choice, but there are some restrictions about foods, this is a long story and I don’t plan to talk it in this post, but I will discuss it in next post. Anyway, you can take a portable charcoal BBQ to roast food as camping food.
  5. Pack sufficient clothing. According to the time of your camping, get the proper clothing. In other words, if you want to camp in July or June, it is very hot and you needn’t take those winter clothes, such as, a fleece jacket, windbreaker, a warm hat and gloves, but you should take a thick coat in case for cold night; while camping in August, you have to take those winter coats. By the way, don’t forget to pack rain gear in case of wet weather.
  6. According to your camping time, take a proper camping tent. For example, if you camp in August, maybe you need a four-season camping tent, while you can take a lightweight summer family camping tent if camp in the hottest months. According to your needs, you even can take a cheap hammock for kids if they like, hammocks always make time go with fast, and they will enjoy the process.
